Beware of the Wicked Abby!

Looking back in Popeye the Sailor - SHIVER ME TIMBERS [July 27, 1934], I end up checking out other 1930s cartoons, including Betty Boop. But there was one that really hit me and that was some Betty Boop cartoons that starred the one and only Cabell "Cab" Calloway III aka CAB CALLOWAY! He was the idol and influence to the music art of Danny Elfman. Songs like "Minnie the Moocher" and the "Old Man Of The Mountain", he was quite a singer and a dancer. A band, Squirrel Nut Zippers, did a song and music video under the style of Betty Boop Cab Calloway cartoons, "The Ghost of Stephen Foster" (1999). And so this idea came to me when I remember this one enemy in the early comics of Troublesome Critters.

You guys remember Abigail William, one of the girls who caused the mayhem of the Salem Witch Trial in 1692. You know, in the series, she appeared as some evil spirit that can transform and even cause spells for a young child?

I combine the idea of Cab Calloway and Abigail William. I came up an idea of a jackalope, in a caricature of Calloway singing the song and danger of Abigail as everything is under the atmosphere of the 1930s rubber hose animation style. I even came up the verses for some song that Cab would've came up or write.


The 3rd or 4th stanza was inspired from some verses one of my watchers, who happens to be has came up when I was sharing him my progress on this. I was inspired from them, so I twist up my own and CHCH shall deserve some credit for some small involvement with the verses.


"Beware of the Wicked Abby!
She ain't no gal to play with toys,
She ain't got no friends to turn on!
No way she ain't getting them boys!

Boo-Dah-Boom! Boo-Dah-Boom! BAH!
Boo-Dah-Boom! Boo-Dah-Boom! BAH! DOOM! BAH!

Miss William ain't no sweetheart mine!
She points fingers at her best friends,
For a crime they did not commit:
Making bewitching odds and ends!

Boo-Dah-Boom! Boo-Dah-Boom! BAH!
Boo-Dah-Boom! Boo-Dah-Boom! HEY!

Many had suffer, many had died!
No honey would smile to this scene!
She's to blame for the massive loss,
And for painting Salem so mean!

Diddle-Lee-Doo-Doo-Dum! Doo Doo Dum!
Diddle-Lee-Doo-Doo-Dum! Doo Doo Dum!
Doo Doo DOH! Bah Dum!

Pity how justice came too soon!
But the rest is now history!
If anyone's inside Baal's vault,
That would be the Wicked Abby!

Ho-dee-ho! Ho-dee-ho! Ho-dee-yay-dee-hoo!
Ho-dee-ho! Ho-dee-ho! Ho-dee-yay-dee-hoo!

Oh, Abby! Oh, Abby! Oh, Wicked Abby!"

Then Xavier wakes up. It was only a nightmare like how most Max Fleischer cartoons present.

Quite a blast from the past, ain't it not?
